About Lake Martin Recreational Resort

Lake Martin Recreational Resort was founded by Mike Guillory and his Mother MaryLynn Chauffe. They are the descendants of Lynn Chauffe who was Co owner of the Ruth Plantation. The Ruth Plantation was a Sugar Cain Plantation that produced and processed Sugar Cain in St. martin Parish. In 1950 Lynn Chauffe signed a contract with the state of Louisiana to use some of there low bottom land to form the former Lake Martin.

This agreement was for public access only. The lease was broken recently when the State of Louisiana was challenged by a landowner who was tired of the State of Louisiana not taking care of the Lake and allowing access to the public without providing facilities and liability protection to the private land owners in the Lake.

The Land owner then leased his property to a commercial operation and entered into a law suit against St. Martin Parish denying jurisdiction of the Parish and the State of Louisiana. The landowner won his law suit and in the process the State of Louisiana admitted in Court records that they didn’t have jurisdiction opening the door for commercial development of Lake Martin.

The open water inside of Lake Martin is Lake Lepointe. State owner and regulated.

Lake Martin Recreational Resort is dedicated in preservation of the Land owned and purchased by MaryLynn Chauffe. It’s MaryLynn Chauffe that the property will be kept intact with the Help of her son Mike Guillory and the Trust she formed after her death in 2022.
